NEGATIVE ISSUES:
· Lack of privacy: As I watched “Digital Dossier” it´s almost scary to know about how technology “ended” with our privacy, even if we move far, far away…. We should be aware that we are not living in a perfect world where everyone around the internet that looks to our information will use it for a good purpose. It´s almost like living in “big brother”, everything you post or every piece of electronic information (from important things in life like your home address, where you live, number of children, parents names, phone calls, ..to everyday life stuff ..What you do, eat, like, dislike, movies, music) can be known by people we don´t even see their face in our life!
· We don´t have total control of our own information on the Internet. It´s not “nice” that we don´t have total control of what others can post about you.
· Once a piece of information is posted online, it´s almost impossible to “erase or delete”.
· Not everyone has this DC information and posts whatever they want about other people, forgetting respect.
· We are not certain that what is posted or showed as a “digital profile” it´s true about that person. Multiple personalities can be developed.
POSITIVE ISSUES:
· We always can build a continuous, stronger, positive digital footprint.
· We can show the world what we do, what we like, what are good at.
· We can make a difference in the world and “spread the news” to create a positive internet atmosphere that echoes in the real world.
· We can educate new generations to make a positive use of the internet.
In other words, for the private sector it is extremely important the perspective that everyone that uses technology, has a perspective of good digital citizenship. Especially for young people trying to get a job or starting their “productive” stage in life.
But as the lessons in this course take place, I´m completely convinced that digital citizenship has to be a fundamental part in the education of every person that uses technology, from the very first time he or she starts using it.
As Mike Ribble says, “The concept of digital citizenship, then, reinforces the positive aspects of technology so that everyone can work and play in this digital world”. “As members of a digital society, it is our responsibility to provide all users the opportunity to work, interact, and use technology without interference, destruction, or obstruction by the actions of inappropriate users.”
The private sector should be aware that good digital citizenship is the building foundation of developing positive digital society, where citizens interact, work and coexist along in an appropriate, responsible environment.
